The Dallas Stars 95 team opened their season this past Labor Day weekend by competing in the Bantam Platinum division of the Texas Shootout Tournament. Prior to the tournament the team only had two practices and the rust showed in the first game vs DJHA 94. Both teams combined for 70 penalty minutes. Despite out-shooting DJHA 19-16 the Stars did not have an answer for the Penguin's Austin Murray who lit the lamp 4 times. Later that afternoon the team gathered at the home of the Waynes for a party. Angie out-did herself with a great spread of food! The boys bonded while swimming, playing football, fishing, playing ping pong and hoops.
The next day the boys came out smoking! They defeated the Alliance 95 team by a score of 6-1 racking up 33 shots in the process and limiting the Bulldogs under double-digits with 9. Blake Gober got the first goal of the season for the Stars and would later follow up with another. Jason Cotton got two goals also, including the game-winner. The team was still bitten by the penalty bug - 12 for the game but was able to score two short-handed goals.
Later that same evening it was the battle of the Stars as we faced the Dallas Stars Select 95 team. The boys showed no signs of fatigue and racked up 49 shots enroute to a 11-1 victory. Team defense was stingy again holding DSS to 9 shots. Tyler Gernhoffer chalked up a hat-trick in the win (welcome to Texas, Tyler!). Andrew Demmings, Thomas Aldworth, and Blake Gober each had two goals. Colton Wayne had a four point game.
Labor Day morning saw our team lining up against Team Houston. The momentum continued with a 6-1 win. In this game you could really see the boys gelling as a team. 4 of the 6 goals had two assists. Dalton Mills had two goals including the game-winner and Tyler Gernhoffer had 3 points. Chris Juele stopped 14 of 15 shots.
Nice job, boys! Keep working hard.
