Dallas Stars 98AAA Hockey Club is pleased to host the 2009 Sportech 98AAA Super 8 Dallas Cup. The tournament will feature only the top AAA teams across North America. The tournament will consist of only 8 teams with each team receiving a 6 game guarantee. The tournament will take place 20-22 Feb 2009. The site for the event will be Dr Pepper StarCenter – Valley Ranch located at 211 Cowboys Parkway in Irving, TX
The tournament field will be divided into 2 divisions of 4 teams. Each division will be split into two brackets of 4 teams each. The top two seeds (determined by team won-loss record and strength of schedule over the initial part of the 2008-2009 season) will be in separate brackets with the remaining teams randomly placed in each bracket.
Each team will play a round robin of 4 games with 3 games being played within your division and one cross-over game in the other division (randomly chosen). After the four game preliminary round robin the top two teams in each division will advance to the Championship round and the bottom two teams in each division will advance to the Consolation round. Once in the Championship or Consolation round each team will play a semi-final game and then one additional game being a Championship, 3rd place, Consolation Championship, or 7th place game.
Each team will play two games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday for a total of 6 games. Please plan to fly into DFW or Love Field Thursday night or Friday morning. First games will start around noon on Friday and end Sunday NLT 3pm.
The goal for the tournament is Most Games (each team plays 6), Most Minutes (15 min and 17 min stop time), Lowest Cost (no hotel kickbacks, no gate fees, Sponsored) , Top 20 Teams invite only ...... This is a different kind of tournament. In order to attract the best you need a different format and we have it!!
All tournament games will be governed by USAH rules.
All round robin games will be 15 minute stop time periods.
All semi-final and final games will be 17 minute stop time periods
Each team will have a designated locker room (TBD)
There will be NO GATE FEE, NO Hotel Kickbacks for this event
